Featured video above is the 2018 elementary school first place winner – “Community Builder” submitted by Iona Academy, CDSB of Eastern Ontario.

Students are invited to create a 2-minute video demonstrating how the scriptural quote inspiring this year’s theme is reflected in how we treat and respect one another: “If we love one another, God lives in us” (1 John 4:12)

This year’s theme once again provides an opportunity to deepen our understanding of how the life of Jesus Christ and acts of Christian service help to define the Catholic identity of our Catholic schools.

“People often comment that when they enter a Catholic school they feel a special presence. This does not come from the building or even the religious symbols that are an important witness to our faith. The presence comes from Christ who is proclaimed by word and example, and is evidenced in the way people chare for one another.”

Call for Submissions

OCSTA invites all CDSB students in grades 4-12 to create a 2-minute video highlighting how demonstrating care and respect for others gives witness to our faith. For further guidance in developing this video, we invite students and staff to draw upon the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations – section 1 (d). This section explores how we are called to be discerning believers through thought and action by developing “attitudes and values founded on Catholic social teaching and acts to promote social responsibility, human solidarity and the common good.”

The 2023-24 Catholic Education Week sub-themes may also provide ideas for developing or structuring student video submissions:

We are Called to Love…

As people of hope

As people of faith

As people of mercy

As people of justice

As people of joy
