Matthew Ho is an accomplished York Catholic District School Board student, who has been selected as the Board’s new Junior Student Trustee for the 2018-2019 school year.
Currently in Grade 11 at St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School in Richmond Hill, Matthew has been extremely active in his school’s community for years. From competing for his school’s Rugby and Volleyball teams to participating in Student Council, Matthew has no shortage of accomplishments to report. Perhaps most impressively, he served as president and co-founder of his school’s 2018 Relay for Life Committee which helped to raise $135,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. He also spent his 2018 March Break participating in a missionary trip to Costa Rica.
“…Education isn’t just about the subjects, the grades, or the socializing – it’s about community building so students can learn character,” said Matthew. “…Students can express relevant thoughts and perspectives. Education encourages students to be the change-making learners that the world needs us to be.”
While serving as Junior Student Trustee, Matthew will attend school board meetings and will have many of the same rights and responsibilities as the Board’s trustees, including introducing motions and voicing students concerns.
Highly motivated and involved community members like Matthew set a shining example for all Catholic school students while representing their peer’s interests to the Board.
