Competition heated up at the annual Math Mania Competition at St. Gregory Catholic School in Mississauga on March 2.

Math Mania, an annual tradition in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, brings together 13 school communities for a day of fun, learning and challenges. The intent is to facilitate academic competition based on teamwork, cooperation, fair play and fun.

“I have a passion for math and for giving students who are like minded to work together as a team,” said Karla Cinapri, teacher at St. Gregory Catholic School. “Students really enjoy this day, they spend weeks preparing and many students are chosen by their teacher to represent their school. Math Mania allows us to celebrate and acknowledge skills we need to honour and encourage.”

Students worked on individual, grade level and team challenges to put their math skills to the test. Throughout the day, students gained points for their school by answering questions correctly. St. Gregory Catholic School took home the gold.
