Teenager Angelito Elipse is no stranger to hard work. He holds a 97 per cent average. He’s compiled more than 1000 community hours. And now he has a shot at the prestigious Loran Scholarship.

Each year thousands of grade 12 students across the country embark on the six-month process to earn a $100,000 prize. Applications become live in September, with students having one month to write essays, gather letters of support and submit their application. After all that, they find out if they are shortlisted for a regional interview.

“We identify and support young people who have the integrity and courage to make difficult decisions, the perseverance to work towards long-term goals, the curiosity to better understand the world around them and the drive to make positive change in their communities,” said the Loran Scholars Foundation.

With only 31 awards offered nationally, Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary School’s Elipse has qualified as one of the 84 national finalists to take home the big award.

For the Jean Vanier Catholic High School, this is a huge accomplishment and a testament to the academic and school community.

Catholic schools not only nurture the mind, body and spirit, but they also develop the whole person.

Our graduates consistently meet and exceed provincial standards, creating standout students like Angelito Elipse.

Angelito will find out this spring if he is a winner.
