Minister of Education, the Hon. Mitzie Hunter visited St. Luke Catholic Elementary School in Hamilton on September 16 for a close-up look at STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning in action.

Joining grade 8 students in an activity on multiple intelligence, the Minister used her cell phone to text her answer to a class challenge to an interactive survey tool that tabulated the top answers in real time onto the class SMARTBoard. The Minister later joined students at an after-hours robotics club for a live demonstration where she handled the controls.

Ontario Catholic schools and school boards consistently meet or exceed provincial expectations in student achievement, program delivery, class size and character development. As the Minister said, “It’s learning that is fun and relevant.”

Thanking the Minister for taking the time to visit St. Luke, HWCDSB Chairperson, Patrick Daly said, “We’re honoured to have Minister Hunter visit our school and experience firsthand the tremendous learning that is taking place in our classrooms.”
